The Tobago Cays were purchased by the St Vincent and Grenadines Government in 1999; having previously been in private ownership from the 16th Century. The Cays are now a wildlife reserve and a unique natural resource.
The Tobago Cays consist of the islets of Petit Bateau (the largest), Petit Rameau, Baradal, Jamesby and Petit Tabac.
