Valencia is Spain's third-largest city with a population of some 740,000. It lies on the Mediterranean coast some 350km south of Barcelona. Madrid is a similar distance inland. Gastronomically, the region is home to paella, Spain's most famous dish. Historically, it is believed that the Holy Grail resides in Valencia's cathedral and it was here that El Cid fought the Moors.
The Valencia climate tends to be mild all year round and one of Spain's greatest festivals, Las Fallas, takes place every March when revelers enjoy a week long party with fireworks and massive bonfires every night.
The major tourist attraction in Valencia is the amazing City of Arts and Sciences which attracts 4 million annual visitors and is equally fascinating to adults and children alike. Valencia is now firmly established on the European art circuit with galleries containing works by El Greco, Goya and Velázquez. The city is currently undergoing a facelift in preparation for the 2007 America's Cup sailing race which will take place off the shore of Valencia. The city's football team is amongst the top teams in the country winning a league and UEFA cup double in 2004/05.
Valencia Airport is located eight kilometres west of the capital, in the municipalities of Manises and Quart de Poblet. Access is gained via the national road N-220, which connects with the A-3 and the N-335.

Transfers into Valencia city are easy enough by one of the following means:
(1) Pre-book a Valencia airport transfer with a travel agent called Viajes Alameda. They will have a driver waiting for your flight on arrival. All destinations and group sizes are catered for.
(2) The excellent bus service into Valencia city with departures from outside the arrivals lounge every 10-15 minutes. The price is only about 1€.
(3) Taxis cost about €15 into the city center and also depart from immediately outside arrivals.

The Valencia weather is controlled by its proximity to the Mediterranean. Summer temperatures are hot but without being too stifling and in winter the day time temperatures are pleasant perhaps a bit cold at night.
There are only on average 44 rainy days a year and many of these are from October to December. The rain starts with the arrival of the "gota fria" which is a local weather phenomenon.
There are many clear, sunny days throughout the year when you can enjoy a drink or something to eat in some of the terraces of the many bars and restaurants in Valencia.
