ALLAHABAD TO VARANASI A SILING TOUR

This is a wonderful trip ­ a kind of soft adventure. Sailing down the Ganges - in a wooden country boat from Allahabad to Varanasi which are important pilgrimage sites in India with an ancient civilization of over 2000 years, is a leisurely trip with lots of fun. This is the most colorful and interesting stretch of this legendary river. Beautiful landscape, simple country-side, people religiously flocking the river banks, old temples, migratory birds and above all camping on the virgin river islands with no body around. A distance of just 125 kms between the two cities by straight road is covered in 5 days through a winding river course. We can also offer shorter boat cruise say for 2-3-4 nights..

It is in Allahabad that three of India’s most sacred rivers, the Ganga, Yamuna and the Saraswati form a confluence - the Prayag. Mythology has it that a bath in this holy spot absolves a person of all his/her sins.

Allahabad and Varanasi are ancient cities where Indian culture can be sighted at its best, where the ancient and the modern merge to present an astounding kaleidoscope. Beautiful landscapes, a simple country-side, countless people flocking the river banks, age-old temples, migratory birds, camping on the riverside…the perks are endless

You can sail down the river in a leisurely manner. The distance between the two cities is approximately 125 km. While it is generally covered within a matter of a few hours by road, we let you soak in the atmosphere, the fun and the adventure and it is a full 5 days before you land on terra firma.

Some Points to be noted

a) Boats are common wooden country boats with couple of rows, a mast and two boat men on each boat. There will be no seats or bench. On board there will be mattress & pillows and 4 persons can easily sit in relaxed position while enjoying the landscape.

b) Normally for overnights we choose Hotels as this is the best way to spend the night and for wash and change, however if there is a small group 10-15 pax then we can camp on a deserted beach or island depending on the season. Breakfast & dinner is served on the hotels /island but lunch & evening tea is always on board.

c) For toilet during the sai we stop at deserted bank and one has to depend on the Indian village style

d) Best period is from Nov to 20th Dec. & from 10th Jan to 15th Mar. (mostly there is a thick fog during end Dec & beginning Jan in North India, affecting the navigation on the river & pictorial views).If plan a trip from mid Jan to Feb, suggest a day in Allahabad to visit the annual Magh Mela (a kind of baby Kumbh Mela - start from Makar Sankranti till Mahashivaratri)
