The waterfalls of India are fabulous as anywhere else in the world and some even more so. These natural spectacles can be found all over India and at all times of the year. However, if you want to see them in their best times, you must head to Ghats in the south during monsoons.

The abundant rainfall gives births to thousands of thunderous and magical waterfalls. Here, I have compiled some of the Best Waterfalls in India”, but get ready to see thousands of them.

Jog Waterfall :

The Jog waterfall is formed by the River Sharavathi, which falls from the height of 259 meters. The river originates at the point called Ambuthirtha in Thirthahalli taluk. It flows in the north west direction through the western ghats forming the jog falls and in the last it merges into the Arabian Sea at Honavar. Sharavati river splits up into four tracks namely Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. The highest and most dignified among the four is the Raja. The second one is Roarer. It has been named so as it creates tremendous amount of noise when it strikes with the water. The third one is rocket which consists of large volume of water flowing out of the small opening at a very high speed. The fourth one is Rani which resembles the movement of the dancing lady.

Athirapilly Waterfalls

Athirappalli and Vazhachal, the two scenic and popular waterfalls on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges are just 5 km apart.

The falls are very popular with tourists. Athirappally is located 78 kms from Kochi, located at the entrance to Sholayar ranges, this waterfall is a popular picnic spot.

Affording to the onlookers, one of the most bewitching sights, Athirappally Falls is about 80ft. high and located in the forest area.

Combined with the greenery, it infuses freshness into any tired soul. The Athirapally Falls join the Chalakkudy River after plummeting a drop of 80 feet.

Vazhachal is a picturesque spot just a short drive from Athirapally and is adjacent to dense green forestland. Vazhachal is part of the Chalakkudy River.

Both the waterfalls, their cool, misty waters cascading down in the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain, are a scintillating experience to visitors.

Palaruvi Falls

Palaruvi Falls are located around 35 kms from Punalur in the Kollam District of Kerala. The Falls are located in a place which is called the Gateway of Backwaters of Kerala. Palaruvi means Stream of Milk. Cascading at a height of 300 feet, the Palaruvi Falls are an attraction of themselves.

These 300 ft high falls are like white thin threads of water. The falls water collects in a small pond below. From the pond the water flows out in various directions. The water of the fall are considered to have medicinal properties, so many of the Ayurvedic Doctors of Quilon suggest a water bath in the Palaruvi Falls. The water coming out of the pond goes in the direction of the Forest which is not very far away from the Palaruvi Falls.

Situated 75 kms from Kollam Town on Kollam-Shencottai road, the area around the Palaruvi Falls was once the retreat Centre of Maharajah of Travancore. The remnants of the past can be seen in the form of Mandapas which lie around the Palaruvi Falls. There is also a horse stable. Covered with dense forests, the scenic beauty of the Palarui Falls is astounding.

Besides bathing, trekking is the main activity around Palaruvi Falls. There are two trekking paths to the Falls. The first one begins from Palaruvi Falls and cover the area of 5kms. Beginning as early as 7 am it ends in the afternoon at around 3 o clock. The route from and to the falls covers caves, forest and small streams. The second trekking path covers fall, crossing streams, forest and endangered Chenkurinji (Gluta travancorica) to the borders of Tamilnadu. This Trek known as the Kurishumala Trekking begins at 7am and ends by 11 am.

Once again my favourite is another jewel of the south India, the Kilyur Falls. The waterfalls serve as a run of from the River Yercand and then proceed to drop 300 ft. To visit the falls, you have to make your way through Shervaoyan hill range, Tamil Nadu.

Savdav Waterfall

Savdav is another jewel in the world of waterfalls. The incredibly beautiful waterfall is at its best from June end to early September, which is ultimately the best time to see it too.

Koli Hills Waterfall

The Koli hills lies in Eastern Ghats and are beautiful all throughout the year.

Koli Hills waterfall is another spectacular waterfall of India and neatly settled on a magnificent valley close to the town of Salem.
