Palaruvi Waterfalls

Palaruvi waterfalls is one of kerala’s most scenic waterfalls situated near the kerala – tamil nadu border, about 5 kms from Aryankavu. Palaruvi is at a distance of 75 kms from kollam town on the kollam – shencottai road. Palaruvi literally means stream of milk and the waterfall cascades down from a height of 300 feet. The surrounding mountains ranges with blue hills and green valleys form a stunning backdrop to this waterfall. Even the journey to this waterfall is a spellbinding experience in itself. Palaruvi is a favourite picnic spot for tourists from south India. The best time to visit this waterfall is in the months of june – January as during the summer it runs dry.

The nearby railway station is Aryankavu. But the trains are not running through this line because of the gage changing works.

Thenmala or the hills that flow with honey is situated about 72 km from Thiruvananthapuram, on the Shencottai Road. Once much sought-after for its honey believed to have medicinal properties, Thenmala is today home to India's first planned eco-tourism project. The nerve-centre of a chain of ten satellite eco-tourism destinations scattered across the hill ranges of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts, Thenmala is spread over acres of evergreen forest

Panchali Medu - Idukki

Situated at an attitude of about 2500 feet above the sea level, Panchali Medu is an adventurer’s slot. According to legends, ‘Pandavas’ (heroes of the epic – Mahabharata) stayed at this place, during their exile from the Kingdom. Here, a small Temple with a pond (in which Panchali - wife of the Pandavas, used to take bath) can also be seen.
A three-hour trek from Valliankavu, which is 10 kms east to Mundakkayam is the famous Panchalimedu. According to legends, the five pandava brothers spent some time here during the time of exile. The name ‘Panchalimedu’ itself is derived from’ Panchali’, another name for Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas. The Pond, near by is said to have been used by Panchali. This site is also famous for the temple of Mala Araya community.
