Darjeeling 
Getting to Darjeeling city is like a trip entering back to the times of British days. Tower and brick chimneys and the spires of the church dominate the skyline. Darjeeling is a city town in Indian located in the state of West Bengal. The Darjeeling city is famous for its tea industry internationally. One other familiar place is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dhoom Gompa, Darjeeling
Dhoom Gompa is a place located about 8 kms from Darjeeling. Here is a lovely statue of Maitrayie Buddha established. The monastery has preserved some rare manuscripts of Buddhists.


The Mall
A commercial lane in Darjeeling is the Mall. This Mall has full line of relic shops that sells hand-knitted sweaters, Himalayan artifacts and both real and counterfeit of archaic. The shops that sell photo frames has the collection of pictures of a century back. It is also popular in spot painted black and white prints with oil colored glow to it. By passing through this Mall you will be able to visit the Chowrasta which is a square that doubles as a bandstand, a pony riding arena for children and a haven for lovers.

Chowrasta
The Chowrasta is a word that means crossroads and this place is a swarm with the commercial activities seen all around. The original Mall Road commences and ends at the Chowrasta and it is the heart of Victorian Darjeeling. Here you can find many hotels, restaurants and shops located one on one. If you are a souvenir collector, then these shops and stalls around the Chowrasta would be your paradise. In this commercial place of Chowrasta Bhutanese sellers display their wares.
Wool clothing, ornaments, tribal, Thankas, rosaries, statuettes of copper and Gorkha daggers are some other things that remain on display for sale at the Chowrasta shops. You can also find some foreign goods available in certain stores located here. The most demand is the local handicrafts that is manufactured there.

Obeservatory Hill
The Observatory Hill is the oldest site in Darjeeling. It is known as “Makal-Babu-Ko-Thaan” locally. In accordance to a legend, the Red Hat Dorje Ling that is known as a Buddhist Monastery or ‘place of Thunderbolt’, was right on this place. Nepali’s in the 19th century destroyed it. Today this place is shared by the Shivas and Buddhists.

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
When you visit Darjeeling, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is the place you should never miss to visit. It was an institute created by the late Tenzing Norgay one who is the Sherpa conquered Mt Everest. This achievement was made by him along with Sir Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953. An exhibition of equipment used in climbing is one of the highlights there. There is a zoological garden nearer to this place. This garden has the assortment of wildlife such as yaks, Siberian tigers and red pandas. The places around the this region of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is the home for all these wildlifes.

Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Passenger Ropeway
To the North Point in about 3 km from the Darjeeling city, is the cable car that was implemented for the first time in India. To reserve seats you will have to contact officers who take charge of it. You can make it by a mail to officer in-charge, Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Ropeway Station, North Point, Darjeeling. Regular taxi service is available in the automotive market and the taxi’s lift station.
