82 Kms away from Kollam on the Kollam-Shenkottai road near Aryankavu, is the Palaruvi waterfalls. There are frequent buses from Kollam to Aryankavu via Punalur. There you can see ruins of ancient temples. The water is said to be medicated as it flows down from the forest and is said to be a preventive for many diseases

The surrounding mist-clad blue hills and green valleys form a stunning backdrop to the milk white burst of foam that resounds through the otherwise tranquil virgin forest. A small cafeteria where you can get snacks etc are is near the vehicle parking area from where we walks into the waterfalls. From the main route of Kollam-Thirumangalom, ie NH208, about 4kilometres you have to travel through the forest road to reach the palaruvi falls after taking the entry passes in the main gate seen besides the highway. Two check posts are on the way till reaching the falls. Exploring the forest will be nice if willing to walk,The forest around is filled with medicinal plants and trees. Some of them on the way to the waterfalls are labelled in green boards.

The scenic beauty, with the hills, valleys and cascades, covered with dense tropical forests, is breath taking. Season to visit the place is June-January.

And also Aryankavu is one of the important pilgrim centres of the district. From every early days, it was an important trade route for merchants from either sides of the Western Ghats. The another attraction of Aryankavu is the Shrine dedicated to Lord Sastha. The temple has some fine sculptures and mural paintings. Thousands of pilgrims flock to this temple during the mandala pooja and Thrikalyanam festivals in December. All trains towards Shencottah have a stop at Aryankavu. Buses plying between Kollam & Shencottah, also pass through this place.

Aryankavu is at the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. It is the nearest village center from both Palaruvi and Rosemala. It is home to one of the most popular Ayyappa temples in Kerala. The temple festival lasts around 10 days and is celebrated during Christmas time. One of the initial railroads in Kerala, constructed during the British rule passes through Aryankavu and has a kilometer long tunnel at the state border. It is also one of the few remaining meter gauge lines in Kerala. A train ride through the winding hills on this line is unforgettable.  Aryankavu is also famous for the teak plantations. The teak wood from this region is supposed to be the best quality due to the nature of soil and weather.
