Tourist Attractions in China

Introduction - China is not a country, but a whole new world. There is hardly any contry on earth that could match its richness in culture, tradtion, history, natural scenery and of course, population. We would like to introduce some of the most beautiful attractions in China to you. We have organized the attractions in 3 ways. In "theme attractions" we tried to group several attractions that shares similar characteristics together, such as the Jiangnan watertowns. Then we invite you to discover this beautiful country by exploring its provinces, and you might be pleasantly surprized. Lastly, we list the most "popular" attractions in China, but please remember, they tend to be extremely crowded!
Theme attractions

Jiangnan Watertowns - There are 6 watertowns located in Zhejing and Jiangsu Province, not far from Shanghai. They are all old towns, some thousands of years old. As they are well preserved, these historically insignificant towns have grown to become important attractions. They are all accessible from Shanghai

Ten most famous Chinese attractions
Forbidden City - The Imperial Palace, also known as the Forbidden City or "Gugong", was the imperial residence and center of the kingdom during the reign of 24 emperors. 14 in the Ming and 10 in the Qing dynasty resided and ruled from this palace for 491 years until Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty and of China. This attraction is now the largest and best preserved ancient architecture in China.
Huangshan (Yellow Mountains) - Situated in the southern part of Anhui Province in China, Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) is a famous scenic attraction. On the mountain, the peaks rise one upon another and the pines and cypresses are luxuriantly green.


The Great Wall of China - The Great Wall, (Wanli Changcheng) literally means the Ten Thousand Mile Wall, is a great fortification in ancient China. The section at Badaling is the most famous of all due to its proximity to Beijing City and condition of restoration. The imposing Badaling Great Wall climbs up and down, twists and turns along the high mountain ridges. It fully shows the lofty quality of ancient Chinese labor people. This is one of the most visited attractions in China.
Terracotta Warriors Terracotta Warriors - Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors in China is the Eighth Wonder of the World, which are indeed spectacular. Jacques Shirac, president of France, once said: "One can't claim to have visited China unless one has seen these terracotta warriors." These warriors that guarded the dead emperor have become a famous attraction.
The Huangguoshu Waterfall - The Huangguoshu waterfall, one of the largest in China, is situated over the Baishui River, one of the headstreams of the Dabang River in the Zhenning Bouyei-Miao Autonomous County southwest of Guizhou.
Jiuzhaigou (Nine-Village Gully) - is a scenic attraction tucked away in the depth of mountains at Nanping county in the northern part of Sichuan Province. Stretching over 72,000 square kilometers in the northern part of Sichuan Province, the jagged Jiuzhaigou valley reaches a height of more than 4,800 m, thus comprising a series of diverse forest ecosystems.
The Bund - also called the Zhongshan Road, lies to the west of the Huangpu River. It is a famous waterfront attraction and regarded as a landmark as well as the birthplace of Shanghai. It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting point of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, to the East Jinling Road and winds a 1500 meters (less than one mile) length.
li river Li River - "The scenery of Guilin is the best in the world, and Yangshuo's scenery is the best in Guilin." This line of description has spread for thousands of years in China. The main reason why the scenery in Guilin and Yangshuo are so beautiful is that there is a Li River running through them. The scenery on both sides of the Li River is beyond description.
mogao The Mogao Caves - also known as the Mogao Grottoes or the Caves of A Thousand Buddhas, are set into a cliff wall of Echoing Sand Mountain about 25km southeast of Dunhuang, the oasis city in the Gobi desert. This honeycomb of caves was constructed over a millennium, from the 4th to the 14th centuries. This attraction now represents the height of Buddhist art and the world's richest treasure house of Buddhist sutras, murals and sculptures.
Xihu (West Lake) - The saying "In heaven there's paradise, on earth there are Hangzhou and Suzhou" is a synonym of Suzhou and Hangzhou, the two scenic spots at the south of the Yangtze River. This attraction is very popular with tourists from Shanghai.
